Infrared Safety Centre - safety through knowledge

What is involved in a HazEx™ Qualification?

HazEx™ Thermography Certification is a written proof of your professional infrared qualifications. When training with ISC for your HazEx™ Thermography Certification, you are attaining certification from the world's leading infrared safety organization. HazEx™ Thermography Certification verifies the inspectors’ ability to understand an explosive atmosphere, its dangers and how to inspect explosive atmospheres with infrared thermography safely with maximum results. Additionally HazEx™ certified inspectors understand correct infrared camera operation, accurate data collect and are trained produce professional infrared inspection reports. HazEx™ Thermography Certification from ISC is designed to include ATEX competent person training by highly qualified instructors with ASNT and ATEX experience.

ISC is the only training facility to provide certification approved by an ATEX Notified body, meaning that your personnel are trained by explosive atmosphere inspectors and certification engineers.

HazEx™ Qualifications are available in three levels; Level 1 (Beginner), Level 2 (Intermediate), Level 3 (Advanced). Unlike some safe-area thermography courses HazEx™ Thermography cannot offer “grandfather rights” from a safety standpoint. Even the most advanced safe-area thermographer must successfully complete each Level in turn in order to be HazEx™ Qualified.

Each HazEx™ course consists of five days training both hands-on and theory in a dedicated training centre. Two independent exams; (1) HazEx™ Safety, (2) HazEx™ Infrared will assess the students capability at the end of the course and determine the pass/fail selection.

Successful students will leave ISC as HazEx™ Qualified Thermographers and also CompEx Qualified personnel.

We own a safe area IR camera, can we be HazEx™ trained?

HazEx™ Qualified thermographers are trained in the techniques used to safely perform infrared thermography in the explosive atmosphere. Since delicate safe-area cameras are not permitted for use within an explosive atmosphere, some of the training provided will not be beneficial as only Explosive Atmosphere cameras are used.

However the course is open to any student or students who may wish to someday perform infrared inspection within an explosive atmosphere.

The HazEx™ Thermography Certification process requires students to attend an infrared certification/training course, pass closed-book examinations and submit a field assignment demonstrating understanding of their application and proper use of the infrared camera. As HazEx™ Thermography Certification is first and foremost explosive atmosphere infrared inspection training, students must maintain their safety certification by active participation in, and continuing education of, their HazEx™ Thermography skills.
